- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 packet instant yeast
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup whole milk, warmed
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 4 cups vegetable oil (for frying)
- 2 cups milk
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/3 cup cornstarch
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 3 large egg yolks
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, yeast, and salt. Mix well.
- In a separate bowl, mix warm milk, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract.
- Combine wet and dry ingredients, knead until smooth. Let rise for 1 hour.
- Roll out dough and cut into donut shapes. Let rise for another 30 minutes.
- Heat oil in a deep pan and fry donuts until golden brown.
- In a saucepan, combine milk, sugar, cornstarch, and salt over medium heat. Cook until thickened.
- Whisk egg yolks in a bowl, then temper with hot milk mixture. Return to heat, stirring until thick.
- Remove from heat, stir in butter and vanilla extract. Let cool.
- Fill donuts with custard using a piping bag.
Notes
- For best results, let the custard cool completely before filling the donuts.
- Dust filled donuts with powdered sugar before serving.
