- 2 cups basmati rice
- 1 pound meat (chicken or beef)
- 1 large onion, finely sliced
- 2 tomatoes, chopped
- 1/2 cup plain yogurt
- 4 cups water
- 2 tablespoons ginger-garlic paste
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- 2 tablespoons oil or ghee
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear, then soak for 30 minutes.
- In a large pot, heat oil or ghee over medium heat and sauté onions until golden brown.
- Add ginger-garlic paste and meat, cooking until the meat is browned.
- Stir in tomatoes, cumin seeds, coriander powder, and salt; cook until tomatoes are soft.
- Add yogurt and mix well, cooking for 5 minutes.
- Add soaked rice and water to the pot and bring to a boil.
- Once boiling, reduce heat to low, cover, and cook for 20 minutes until rice is tender.
- Remove from heat and let it sit, covered, for an additional 5 minutes.
- Fluff rice with a fork and sprinkle with garam masala before serving.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, use a mix of meats.
- Adjust spice levels according to your preference.
- Serve with a side of salad for a complete meal.
