A delicious and aromatic Pakistani spiced rice dish served with tender meat and a creamy yogurt sauce.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups basmati rice
  • 1 pound meat (chicken or beef)
  • 1 large onion, finely sliced
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 1/2 cup plain yogurt
  • 4 cups water
  • 2 tablespoons ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 2 tablespoons oil or ghee
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear, then soak for 30 minutes.
  2. In a large pot, heat oil or ghee over medium heat and sauté onions until golden brown.
  3. Add ginger-garlic paste and meat, cooking until the meat is browned.
  4. Stir in tomatoes, cumin seeds, coriander powder, and salt; cook until tomatoes are soft.
  5. Add yogurt and mix well, cooking for 5 minutes.
  6. Add soaked rice and water to the pot and bring to a boil.
  7. Once boiling, reduce heat to low, cover, and cook for 20 minutes until rice is tender.
  8. Remove from heat and let it sit, covered, for an additional 5 minutes.
  9. Fluff rice with a fork and sprinkle with garam masala before serving.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use a mix of meats.
  • Adjust spice levels according to your preference.
  • Serve with a side of salad for a complete meal.
