- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup sugar
- 4 eggs
- 2 cups milk
- 4 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a saucepan, bring water and butter to a boil. Remove from heat and add flour, stirring until combined.
- Add eggs one at a time, mixing thoroughly after each addition.
- Spread batter on a baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes.
- In a separate pot, whisk together milk, sugar, cornstarch, and vanilla over medium heat until thickened.
- Once the pastry is cool, slice it in half horizontally and fill with the cream mixture.
- Top with the other half of the pastry and refrigerate before serving.
Notes
- Chill the cake for a few hours for the best texture.
- Can be topped with powdered sugar before serving.
