A delicious and traditional Polish dessert consisting of layers of cream and pastry.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 4 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a saucepan, bring water and butter to a boil. Remove from heat and add flour, stirring until combined.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, mixing thoroughly after each addition.
  4. Spread batter on a baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes.
  5. In a separate pot, whisk together milk, sugar, cornstarch, and vanilla over medium heat until thickened.
  6. Once the pastry is cool, slice it in half horizontally and fill with the cream mixture.
  7. Top with the other half of the pastry and refrigerate before serving.

Notes

  • Chill the cake for a few hours for the best texture.
  • Can be topped with powdered sugar before serving.
