Ingredients

  • 4 hot cross buns, sliced
  • 1 cup brewed coffee, cooled
  • 1 cup mascarpone cheese
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup chocolate shavings for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine coffee and a splash of rum (optional).
  2. Dip each slice of hot cross bun into the coffee mixture briefly.
  3. Layer the soaked buns in a serving dish.
  4. In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form, then fold in mascarpone, sugar, vanilla, and cinnamon.
  5. Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the first layer of buns.
  6. Add another layer of soaked buns and repeat with the remaining mascarpone mixture.
  7. Dust the top with cocoa powder and sprinkle with chocolate shavings.
  8. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours before serving.

Notes

  • For added flavor, drizzle some coffee liqueur over the buns before layering.
  • This dessert tastes even better the next day as the flavors meld together.
