Ingredients
Scale
- 1 French baguette, sliced into 1/2-inch rounds
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 large onions, thinly sliced
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon balsamic vinegar
- 1 ripe pear, thinly sliced
- 4 ounces goat cheese, softened
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh thyme leaves for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Arrange the baguette slices on a baking sheet and brush both sides with olive oil. Bake for about 10 minutes or until golden and crispy. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, add the sliced onions and a pinch of salt. Cook for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the onions are soft and starting to caramelize.
- Add the brown sugar and balsamic vinegar to the skillet. Continue to cook for another 10 minutes, stirring frequently, until the onions are deeply caramelized and sweet. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- Spread a layer of goat cheese on each toasted baguette slice. Top with a spoonful of the caramelized onions and a slice of pear.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste. Garnish with fresh thyme leaves if desired. Serve immediately.
Notes
- For added flavor, drizzle a little honey over the crostini just before serving.
- Substitute the goat cheese with cream cheese or ricotta for a different taste and texture.
