- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup vegetable oil
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1 cup crushed Oreo cookies
- 1 cup butter, softened
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 1/2 cup Oreo cookie crumbs for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add the buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Beat on medium speed for about 2 minutes.
- Stir in the boiling water until well combined. The batter will be thin.
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes.
- Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove from the pans and cool completely on wire racks.
- For the frosting, beat softened butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar and mix until well combined.
- Fold in crushed Oreo cookies.
- Once the cakes are completely cool, spread frosting between the layers and on top of the cake.
- Garnish with additional Oreo cookie crumbs.
Notes
- For a more intense chocolate flavor, use dark cocoa powder.
- This cake can be made a day in advance and stored in the refrigerator.
- Feel free to adjust the sweetness of the frosting by adding more or less powdered sugar.
